THIS & THAT

Here's what we've been doing this past month!
We've been sequencing lots of stories.  Eric Carle stories work so great for this concept.

Every year I do this project with my class.  We discuss the life cycle of a plant and what a plant needs to grow.  The students write the steps to planting a seed and then follow their directions to plant their Hairy Heads.  After the seeds sprout and grow the students can cut its hair or style it.

The Gingerbread Man traveled to England.  We read and talked about royalty.  The students wrote proclamations which were read on KING & QUEEN DAY.
After learning about bugs and insects, the students used model magic dough to create a bug.  Each child wrote a bug report about their creation.
We observed the life cycle of painted lady butterflies. Here we are releasing them.  This butterfly didn't want to fly away!

Daisy the cow helped us learn about the milking process and why milk is healthy.
The Gingerbread Man is now in Brazil.  We are studying the plants and animals of the Amazon Rainforest.

After reading books about rainforest animals, the students create maps.
The maps help the students write facts about each animal.
Another sequential activity is writing recipes for our classroom cooking projects.  The children LOVED making and eating the ants.  Absolutely appetizing!!!!

Hooray for the USA!

Look at all the patriotic fun we had this past week!

I

The students followed picture directions to paint a bald eagle.  They used their listening skills to assemble the liberty bell.

I do this directed drawing every year and the end result is sooooo cute!

Did you know the Statue of Liberty was a gift from France?  We assembled these cuties after reading several stories about this US symbol.
We loved making the 3-D Washington Monuments!

This student is wearing her 3 cornered hat just like George Washington!

Here's a close-up of the notes tucked inside Abraham Lincoln's hat.  The kids just loved writing on sticky notes!

Aren't they adorable?!

What's Up!

Hello!  I'm back!  Here's what we've been up to.
Snowman Names - found this idea on Pinterest.  After assembling our snowmen, the students used descriptive words to write about their snowman.  Each day I will read a few LOST POSTERS and the students will have to find the snowman by listening to the description.

We have been learning about 2-D and 3-D shapes!  The children are making 2-D and 3-D snowmen for a fun way to review.

We made tissue snowflakes for our deciduous tree.  The children spun a pattern to create an icicle.

The students wrote and illustrated the steps to making a Snazzy Snowman.  They followed their recipe to assemble and eat a snowman.  Delicious!

Look at our mitten fun!

We wrote resolutions for the new year, practiced counting by 5's & counting down from a number.

My son visited the froggy friends during his 2 week leave from Camp Pendleton.  We look forward to keeping in touch by becoming pen pals.

That's all for now!!!
