SUPER SCIENCE DAY 3

CRAZY COLORS

Experiment 1:  Mixing Colors

Before we begin this experiment, I read...
After the story I give each student a little blue, a little yellow, and a little red play-dough ball.
The students use the primary colors to make secondary colors and record their discoveries.

Experiment 2:  CRASHING COLORS
What happens when primary colors "bump" into each other?

BEFORE
AFTER
Experiment 3:  Eating Colors
The students mixed primary colored icing to make secondary colors.  Yummy!

Experiment 4:  Paint a Picture!
The students mixed paint to create new colors for their masterpiece.

SUPER SCIENCE DAYS 1 & 2

This week I'm hosting a Super Science Camp!
Take a look at what we are discovering!

Day 1
WONDERFUL WATER

Experiment 1:  Lava Lamp
We discovered that water is heavier than oil.  Did you know oil and water don't mix?  The students put pieces of seltzer tablets in the tube.  Look what happened!

Experiment 2:  CHASE THE PEPPER
We discovered that water has surface tension.
The students broke the water's surface with a drop of soap!
Amazing!!!

Experiment 3:  MUSICAL WATER
The students discovered that water can produce sounds.
We listened for high and low sounds!

Experiment 4:  TRAVELING WATER
We discovered that water sticks together.
It has adhesive and cohesive qualities.
You can't tell in this picture, but the water is traveling on a string.

Day 2
MARVELOUS MATTER
Matter has 3 forms - liquid, solid, and gas

Experiment 1:  MAGIC BALLOON
We discovered that vinegar (liquid) and baking soda (solid) makes a gas, carbon dioxide.

Experiment 2:  DANCING RAISINS
Did you know gas can lift objects?

WOW!

Writing about it.

Experiment 3:  MONSTER MUD
It's a solid!  It's a liquid!  It's monster mud!!!
It feels hard when you poke it.

It drips like a liquid.

You can grab it like a solid.

Experiment 4:  BLOBBER
Did you know 2 liquids can make a solid?!  It's stretchy and bouncy!
You can break it and even blow a bubble!!!

This science journal can be purchased at my store.

MARVELOUS MACHINES DAY 5

Day 5:  Review

Station 1 - Journals

Station 2 - Marbles & Ramps
The students used paper towel tubes to create a ramp.  They had to discover how to position the ramp so they could knock down the paper dolls with a marble and/or go through tunnels.

Station 3 - Spoon Catapult
The students decorated plastic spoons.
Then students tested out their catapults (levers) by launching foil balls in the air.
We made sure to wear our safety goggles!!!

Cooking - Snowcones
The students used this little machine to shave ice for snowcones.
It was hard work but produced sweet results.  Delicious!!!
